NSD Co-Founder Larry Yard Published First Edition in 1975 The originator of the National Speedway Directory, Larry Yard, died May 26, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a Peoria, Illinois native, then moving to live many years in Florida.

Brown began helping him with a second edition of the MARG. In 1975 Larry, along with his wife Pat, and with help from Mr. Brown published the first National Speedway Directory. Selling his book out of the trunk of his car, Larry then originated, wrote and published a book titled “National Speedway Directory,” which listed detailed information on most of the auto racing tracks, which served as the “racers bible” for finding every racetrack in the U.S. and Canada. He traveled extensively for several years promoting the directory, and then sold “NSD” to longtime friend Allan Brown. Brown took over the business in 1980, along with new partners Ross and Nanette Ferguson. Brown and his wife Nancy purchased the Ferguson’s share of the business
