One Lap of America

The Tire Rack One Lap of America (www.onelapofamerica.com) is a motorsports contest run exclusively on private, closed courses. The 2013 event will run from May 4, 2013 to May 11, 2013.  The 8 day event will have 19 stages conducted at 10 venues and traveling over 3,400 miles. The legendary Brock Yates created the infamous Cannonball Sea-To-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy in the 1970’s.  The current edition is headed by Brock Yates, Jr. and the 2013 event will be the 30^th annual running of the event.

This week we visit with Matt Schwartz the Race  Director from Plymouth Speedway. Plymouth held a few dirt races on an infield dirt track and  it was so successful they decided to change to dirt racing all year long. Some  NASCAR stars are coming to play in the dirt at Plymouth this summer. 

Ron Hagen from TrackLab.biz joins us to talk about  the mobile chassis dyno business. Located in St. Louis, Missouri Track Lab provides a unique service to a variety of  clients. Ron will also talk about his company’s other business that helps class  8 trucks get the best mileage out of their rig.

Cheryl Kurtis from the Hill Country Kart Club stops  by to talk about the kart racing business down in the great state of Texas. Located in New Braunfels, Texas this club run facility is heading into its 25-year  anniversary.

John Lopes is the President of Andretti Sports  Marketing which has done a magnificent job adding new life to races that were in  trouble. John talks about the Milwaukee Indy Fest and their other work to help  bring Indy Car Racing back in the USA. Some of the methods used at Andretti Sports  Marketing can help any size track or series attract new customers.

Jason Tyler took over management at  Madison International Speedway and has done a wonderful job turning a weekly  facility into a track that fans can expect a great show from every time they  open their gates. Switching mainly to Sunday matinee shows has given fans and  racers another option for short track racing in the Badger state.

Glen Thompson from GT Promotions has brought back  racing to Liberty Fairgrounds Speedway and also runs Beaver County Raceway. This  week Liberty is hosting the Stroker Ace Nationals which features  some fun fan involvement as well as terrific racing for IMCA  street stocks  and sport mods. Rick Salem’s United Rebel Sprints will be there next week.
