National Speedway Directory Teams With TrackChasers For Annual Awards

Wilmette, IL (March 15, 2012) – National Speedway Directory is pleased to announce an increased involvement with the TrackChaser group through their recognition of the top five TrackChasers annually. Plaques will be given to the top five in the group, similar to NSD's long-time sponsorship of Ron Hedger's Super Fan contest in the National SpeedSport News. “We are proud to be associated with and help recognize this amazing group of dedicated race fans and travelers”, said Tim Frost, publisher of the National Speedway Directory.

Each year, plaques will be awarded to the top five group members who visit the most new tracks during

the calendar year. The awards will be named after Ed Esser of Wisconsin, a long-time member and supporter of the group who passed away unexpectedly earlier this year.

Involvement between the NSD and TrackChasers dates to the beginning of the group, as NSD founder Allan Brown is a charter member. National Speedway Directory is also the sponsor of the “TrackChaserWorld Cup”, which is named in honor of Roscoe “Pappy” Hough, and recognizes the group member that has viewed wheel-to-wheel auto racing at the most different tracks during a lifetime. The late Ed Esser is the current group leader in lifetime tracks, having been to 1,430 different tracks, the final two the weekend before his passing.

Winners of the inaugural set of plaques from the 2011 season are Guy Smith, Ed Esser, Pam Smith, Roland Vanden Eynde of Belgium, and Mike Knappenberger. The award earned by the late Ed Esser, as well as a miniature version of the “TrackChaser World Cup” were presented posthumously to Ed's son Lee by NSD's Tim Frost.

TheTrackChaser group was founded by Guy Smith, whose popular “Roaming the Raceways” column has appeared in the Area Auto Racing News for more than 30 years. The group statistics are currently located on the web at www.roamingtheraceways.com, and the group also has a Yahoo! Groups listserve. Smith currently acts as group webmaster, listserve owner and moderator, statistician, and so-called commissioner. He said, “Our niche group is honored to be supported by the National SpeedwayDirectory, a publication that nearly all group members have relied on dating back to 1975. It's a natural partnership. Both the TrackChasers and NSD always try to promote the sport of auto racing”.

The group listserve is open to anyone. Information on new tracks and upcoming racing events, as well as reports from events attended by group members is shared there. A link to join can be found on the website.

About TrackChasers

A TrackChaser attempts to see wheel-to-wheel auto racing at as many race tracks as possible. A trackchaser can only count a track once, no matter how many different events they have seen there.

Anyone is also welcome to have their individual track list included on the TrackChaser section of the website as long as they meet the minimum requirement of having seen racing at 200 different tracks; or 100 tracks if from outside NorthAmerica or if under the age of 18. The group operates on the honor system.

The TrackChaser group also undertakes projects of assembling track lists for famous racing drivers and personalities; with individuals as diverse as Jackie Stewart, Steve Kinser, and Chris Economaki included to name a few. More features are planned for the group and for the website in the future.

The TrackChaser group is a labor of love and we welcome new members to our community. There are

no dues or fees involved. Information can be found at the website www.roamingtheraceways.com or and questions about the group may be directed to Guy Smith at RTRYFBAR@aol.com.
